Customers were allowed into the store 50 at a time, but there were still a few kerfuffles, as when the head of the sale had to confront a customer who was blocking an aisle with a pile of carpets and other items she said she planned to buy. Still more deal-hunters were annoyed that 100 neighbors of the hotel and “special guests” were allowed to preview the sale and buy items they wanted before it was opened to the general public.
Dubbed a “liquidation sale,” the hotel would not conjecture how much money it hoped to reap from the offerings, but there were over 80 rooms’ worth of furnishings on sale from guest rooms and the kitchen. The prices ranged from $2 for steak knives and wine glasses to $825 for a chandelier. Among the best bargains reported by the L.A. Times were $450 42-inch flat-screen TV’s, and king-size beds for $375.
The furnishings were all removed from the hotel in preparation for the two-year planned renovation of the hotel, which has 91 rooms and suites. After all the work is done, the property will also include a dozen new villas and a spa.
With the rush of holiday parties and preparations, did you not get the chance to hit the sale this weekend? You haven’t missed your chance. The sale will continue Monday-Saturday from 10:00am-7:00pm and Sunday from noon-5:00pm until everything is sold.
One last piece of information you’ll require: the address. The temporary storefront is set up at 1251 4th Street in Santa Monica, not at the hotel itself.
