Finding Funky Interior Kitsch At The Crosby Street Hotel
So few images of the creative interior design at the new Crosby Street Hotel in Manhattan have hit the internet, and so last Thursday when we sat in their private screening room for a preview of the movie Sherlock Holmes, thanks to VisitBritain, we made sure to snap some of the interesting kitsch.
The polar bear bookcase is especially notable, since it totally dominates the room and is literally mirrored in a polar bear-shaped mirror on the wall behind it. Most guests and visitors to the hotel won't even see it, since it's located on the lower level in the reception area to the screening room.
The same goes for the sweet lamps, after the jump.
At first, we wondered if these phones were still working, and we weren't the only ones since we noticed a few guests try to pick them up. They're vintage rotary phones with soft lights embedded in the mouthpiece, which don't do much to light the room but do attract your gaze towards tables where there are usually hors d' oeuvres or flowers.
Meanwhile upstairs in the lobby, all of the art on display means that photography is forbidden. An odd policy for a hotel getting so much press, but then we guess they want you to pay to stay there for the privilege of viewing them.
