Last-Minute Hotel Rooms in Time Square for New Year's Eve

December 15, 2009 at 9:59 AM | by | Comments (2)

So you and your friends have finally gotten your act together and come up with a plan for New Year's Eve. The only problem is you want to ring in 2010 in Times Square, home to one of the biggest New Year's Eve celebrations in the world.

Never fear. This can be accomplished, just barely. We have found three hotels close to Times Square with rooms open on the 31st. But we do hope that you plan on splitting this room with at least one other person. Last-minute often means pay more.

If you want to be in New York for New Year's Eve but don't need to be near the ball drop, there are plenty of hotel rooms open elsewhere in town. Interestingly, we found there's more availability uptown rather than downtown.

We'll be keeping a running list here of any hotel rooms that may open up in Times Square as New Year's Eve draws near. Know of any hotels in Times Square with last-minute rooms? Put 'em in comments below.

We found these rates on various websites on December 14 and 15. Rates and availability are subject to change.

1. The Royalton: The Morgans Hotel still has rooms available for $593 a night on Quikbook. (That's for a standard queen room too.)The hotel has a prime location on 44th between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Just walk over one more block and you're in Times Square. However, you must prepay in full and while Quikbook usually has a good cancellation/change policy, this time your reservation is set in stone.

2. The Muse Hotel: We were a little shocked that this Kimpton Hotel on 46th and Sixth would still have rooms open but we'll take it! An executive king room is available on the hotel's website for $459 a night. But there's a complimentary wine-tasting in the lobby for guests and free WiFi for Kimpton InTouch members.

Update: This hotel is now no longer available.

3. 6 Columbus: Ok, we know that Columbus Circle is not Times Square but it is only a 10-block walk away. We just walked from Times Square up there the other week and it was pretty easy to do. Plus you'll wake up in the morning and be near Central Park--not the leftover party litter of Times Square. We found rooms on Tablet Hotels for $390 a night.

Casablanca Times Square

The Casablanca Times Square is the closest hotel to the New Year's Eve ball drop. There are still a few rooms left. You can watch the ball drop from the roof of the hotel or use your VIP pass to step out into the crowd just a few minutes before the ball drop.I have done both in previous years and either way, you will feel like a rock star!  http://casablancahotel.com/specials-packages/index.cfm

Thanks Adele

We'll def. check it out. What are prices like?
