Shopaholics looking for a Christmas getaway can head for Santa Monica's Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows. The hotel offers you a good excuse to hit the stores: It will give out $100 American Express gift cards when you stay at the hotel during the holidays.

You could take the AmEx card and try to wade through the frazzled last-minute shoppers in the nearby Third Street Promenade, where you can find everything from mall standbys like the Gap and Footlocker to specialty shops like home decor store Restoration Hardware and kitchen-focused Sur La Table.

Or you can ditch the Third Street Promenade altogether and just splurge elsewhere. At the hotel, you can buy yourself a meal at FIG, a seasonal restaurant whose ingredients come from the Santa Monica Farmer's Market, or buck the holiday trend of overloading on cookies and sweets and purchase some of the exhale spa's Core Fusion classes, which supposedly provide a killer workout.

However you decide to spend your dough, you'll have to spend a night at the Fairmont Miramar to get your AmEx plastic. The holiday special deal is good for a stay during December 23 to 28. Rates start at $339 a night for double occupancy.
