Listen, The Space Hotel is Not Going to Open in 2012

We linked to the news that the very first Space Hotel would open in 2012 in our hotel news briefs on Monday. That's because we didn't think something so far-fetched really merited an entire post but today we thought we'd put our thoughts out there on the Galactic Suite Space Resort.

For starters, it's not going to open in 2012. Does anyone not remember Lance Bass' dream to go to outer space? Look how well that turned out. And most ambitious hotel plans never make their opening date so we're gonna go ahead and say that outer space probably has some unique factors that could contribute to a delay.

Second, let's talk about price. Sure, Russian billionaires may have the money to spend $4.4 million on three nights in space but what happens when this space hotel runs out of Russian billionaires? (Not so coincidentally a Russian billionaire is financing this project.)

Lastly, to actually get to space and sleep in your "pods" you have to attend an eight-week training course in the Caribbean. Then after launching from Russia, in one and a half days you will arrive at the hotel. Yes, the perks will be amazing. Guests will travel around the world ever 90 minutes and will see the sun rise 15 times a day. Hmm...that does sound lovely.

We sincerely hope that a Space Hotel could open in our lifetime but 2012? That's just far too soon. Then again, what do we know? Forty-three people have already reserved their "rooms" at the Space Hotel.

Are we just being Negative Nellies here or does the Galactic Suite Space Resort have a real shot at opening in 2012? Let us know what you think in comments below.

    If Space Hotel will open in 2012, I think they will break boundaries. It will be a first in history. I can't wait even if it means using my secured loan just to experience this, I will. Secured loans in the UK are different in the laws and regulations than across the pond, but are more or less the same in most ways.  If you know what you want, but don't know how to get it, you can find secured loans in the UK lenders, and compare interest rates and terms, just like anywhere else.  And secured loans are backed by collateral that the borrower holds, so it is definitely in your best interest not to default, and to find the most favorable terms so that it's less likely.  Whether you're looking for a mortgage, a car, or debt consolidation, secured loans in the UK are just like anywhere else.
