With all the breathless anticipation over the February opening of the Trump SoHo, we almost forgot that the Don and the kids had other properties. (Almost but not quite—after all, how can you miss those towers cutting off your access to the sun?) But you don't expect the Trumps to let their flagship baby languish while the cool kid downtown gets all the attention, do you? Of course not!

So it will come as no surprise, then, that the Trump International Hotel & Tower New York (that big sucker at the bottom of Central Park) is getting a multimillion-dollar spit and polish come January.

While the Forbes (formerly Mobil) Five-Star Hotel has always been stately and posh, the renovations will, according to Donald J. Trump Jr, put it in step with the "elegant, classic-contemporary feel of the other Trump Hotel Collection properties." It was Don Jr. himself who approved the model room displaying the proposed renos. So, what can all those tween stars expect when their tours bring them back to NYC in 2010?

A rich, dramatic color palette of gray and aubergine with neutral accents of ivory and caramel will convey a sophisticated, urban feel. Seating in plush, high-contrast upholstered velvets and silky fabrics will be paired with rich rosewood, mahogany, maple and walnut finishes. A handcrafted Schonbek crystal chandelier surmounting the dining table will lend romantic allure. Luxe shagreen fabric, burnished gold leaf, bronze, mirror and glass will add glamorous touches, along with sumptuous purple velvet draperies and opulent silk accent walls.

The hotel will remain open during the remodeling and Trump's PR team promises "a seamless, quiet transition invisible to guests". But we all know what construction in a still-open hotel means: dust, hammers, and cheaper room rates! No word yet on whether the rates will drop here but we can't help wondering if these renovations might actually give us and other mere mortals a chance to afford the Trump International.

The work will take place in two stages: January through April and then June through September. They expect to unveil the new look next Labor Day.

So, kids take note: if Miley and the Jonas brothers are in town between now and then, you might want to look for them downtown in the Trump SoHo instead. It's set to open February 1st.

Trump International Renovations

I bet the interiors will be stunning! Will visit the facility later this year and see the results.
