The Rum Bar
Details of the installation are still under wraps, however Estevez says that the piece is “based upon time, an entirely human invention that affects individuals in startling ways.” (We hear ya, Carlos. It affects us most when we’re waiting for room service to arrive.) A more manageable version of the artwork, a ceramic plate of the same design, will be auctioned off during the party, with proceeds benefiting Friends of the Orphans. Other works by Estevez will also be on display next door in the hotel’s Drawing Room throughout Art Basel.
If you can’t tear yourself away from the South Beach action to head over to Key Biscayne, The Ritz-Carlton South Beach is also getting in on the Art Basel action. They’ll kick off with the Master’s Mystery Art Show on December 2nd (another private event, so get schmoozing), and will offer hotel guests the services of an Art Basel Ambassador, who can create a personal itinerary based on individual artistic preferences.
Burning question of the day: is the Art Basel Ambassador actually the Tanning Butler in disguise? If so, we’re there.
