Could You Soon Be Sleeping in a Marriott Hotel And Not Know It?

This is a Marriott Hotel bed but will your next hotel bed be so forthcoming?

It's not hard to ever miss the presence of the all-mighty Marriott Hotels during your hotel stays. For one thing, chances are the Marriott name is a part of the hotel name. Marriott Hotels, JW Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott and etc.

Secondly, whenever you booked your hotel stay you probably had to go to Marriott.com where if you didn't know before, then you certainly know now that Renaissance Hotels are part of Marriott as are Fairfield Inn and Suites, Townplace Suites and SpringHill Suites. The only one that kind of trips people up is Ritz-Carlton. But yes, that's a Marriott hotel too.

But could this change in the future? A tipster emailed us to say that Marriott might be working on a new brand that will not be Marriott-branded at all.

According to the trade magazine, Hotel Business, Robert McCarthy, Marriott's head of the Americas and global lodging services told the Cornell University's Dean Leadership panel that Marriott was working on a new brand called The Autograph Collection. This low-key brand would reach out to independent hotels and give them access to Marriott's reservations and rewards system but without the whole "We're Part of the Marriott Family" smugness.

And it seems like this "not a brand" brand could be rolled out to include 25 to 30 independent luxury and upscale hotels by the end of 2010.

Yet don't confuse the Autograph Collection with Marriott's own attempt to get into the boutique hotel arena. They're already making over the Renaissance hotels to fit that mold. Oh and don't forget about Edition Hotels, supposedly opening this December in Istanbul. But we bet we'll have a better chance of getting a Marriott "Autograph" (har har) before a Marriott Edition.

Respect

Indeed, Merriott deserve it's reputation. I tell it from my experience in some hotels on the beach in Hawaii. Not only the luxury makes it such a distinguished chain of hotels. The staff, the prices, the services are also contributing to the hotel's comfort.
