Money's No Object For CK Verbier's New Chalet

October 8, 2009 at 4:33 PM | by juliab | 0 Comments

You may be feeling impoverished at the moment, but the ski season is about to start and the Alps don’t do poor, darlings. Neither do the people who ski there – which is why ulra-lux chalet company CK Verbier is opening a fourth chalet for the 2009 season.

We say “chalet” but Sagittaire is more like a private hotel – for a start, it sleeps 31, and it’s split into three apartments with a pool, spa and gym to share between them.

Each chalet comes equipped with a 24-hour chauffeur, host and personal chef, as well as access to the CK Verbier wine cellar, which, they reckon, is “one of the finest private wine collections in the Alps”. Seeing as the lowly house bubbly is Krug (you get a bottle on arrival to start you off), we’re thinking their booze standards are pretty high.

There’s even a concierge service ready to book you a restaurant, fix you up with ski lessons or arrange a champagne breakfast on piste. See? It’s just like a hotel, except you get it all to yourself. You’ll have to pay through the nose though – penthouse apartment Gentianes starts at £10,418 ($16,734) a week – though it sleeps 12, which brings it down to a slightly more reasonable £868 ($1392) per person. And considering a box of eggs costs about £6 in an Alpine supermarket, £124 ($199) a night for all that doesn’t actually sound too heinous. As long as you actually like the other 11 people.

The chalet’s so squeaky new that it hasn’t been photographed yet. Instead, here’s a picture from another chalet, Le Ti. We’re thinking of the fondue potential already...
