Plenty of hotels are pushing books onto guests these days, adding in-room libraries, Kindles or Sony eReaders to their list of amenities. We’re quite fond of reading by the fire or the pool at hotels but book club events, which are also on the rise, sound a little, well, earnest. Unless, of course, wine is involved.

Perhaps that’s why Miami’s Epic Hotel was smart enough to combine their ongoing literary series with their daily guest wine-hour program—and special room rates that make hitting the books totally worth it.

The latest “Epic Wine Hour Presents” author series is set for Thursday, October 15, and will feature Miami-based author Leila Cobo reading from her new novel, Tell Me Something True.

Guests of the hotel have an open invitation to the reading, although RSVPs are required for non-guests since space is limited. (RSVP: 954-765-3636.) Mingling with Cobo after the reading could be interesting not just for book geeks but music fans as well: as an executive at Billboard, Cobo is considered the ultimate Latin music insider, and has written liner notes for Ricky Martin and Shakira.

The “Tell Me Something True” weekend rate will be available for the nights of Thursday, October 15 through Sunday, October 18—starting at $169 a night plus tax for a cityview room. Without the promotion, rooms on the same dates start at $260 a night. Reservations can be made through the hotel’s website—enter TRUE in the rate-code box—or by phone. For every “Tell Me Something True” reservation, Epic will make a $10 donation to the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe, which distributes books to kids in the area.
