Kimpton's 'Giving Tree' Campaign Not Shel Silverstein-Related

October 7, 2009 at 1:25 PM | by Heidi Atwal | 0 Comments

A room at Kimpton's Hotel Monaco in Chicago.

If it seems like we've been writing about the Kimpton Group's environmentally-sound strides ad nauseam, it's only because they're really—and we mean really—pushing green initiatives these days. They didn't win an "Earth Saver" award for nothing, you know.

But even their Captain Planet-like heroism could use a helping hand, namely from you, their faithful guests. Their latest pet project has them teaming up with The Nature Conservacy (an organization that "protects Earth's most important natural places") for TNC's "Plant A Billion Trees" campaign. Their mission is to do just that: plant a billion trees in Brazil's Atlantic Forest over the next seven years to help restore its luster and save its ecosystem.

All you have to do to lend a helping hand is book a room at a Kimpton Hotel, enter the code "TNC" when you're making your reservation, and they'll donate $10 to The Nature Conservancy's efforts. Interestingly, though, the code is supposed to knock 10% off of the Best Available Rate, but when we conducted two separate searches—one with the code, one without—for L.A.'s Hotel Palomar, less expensive prices came up without entering "TNC." Very odd.

Punching in the same code at Chicago's Hotel Monaco did yield a discount, so we can only assume the former is a minor glitch in an otherwise well-meant promotion.
