Put This On Your Calendar: Chef Orgy at Marina Bay Sands Singapore, 2010

Yes, that is what the hotel of the future will look like.
Thought the hotels in Vegas had lined up some high-powered culinary talent? Think again. Next year, the big chefs head to Singapore for the opening of the $5.4 billion Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Launching with the hotel in 2010 will be six restaurants by powerhouse chefs from around the globe, transforming Singapore’s culinary scene overnight.
To call the Marina Bay Sands a hotel is a bit of a misnomer. Eventually, the complex developed by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation will include not only the hotel, but will also serve as "a launch pad for [Singapore’s] tourism industry" with three cascading hotel towers with 2,500 rooms along the waterfront, a spa, a convention center designed to accommodate up to 45,000 people, "floating" crystal pavilions, a lotus-inspired museum, retail store space featuring international luxury brands, and, as we just mentioned some pretty famous chef-driven restaurants.
Speaking of the restaurants, the chefs who have signed on are Mario Batali, Wolfgang Puck and Daniel Boulud, who will launch locations of their signature restaurants near the theater complex in the resort, while chefs Santi Santamaria, Guy Savoy and Tetsuya Wakuda will offer their own take on Singapore cuisine in the mezzanine level of the resort’s casino. Oh, did we forget to mention that? Yeah, there’ll be a casino too. The whole point is, as Marina Bay Sands CEO and President Thomas Arasi says, that “Singapore will become the culinary epicenter of Asia.”
No word yet on what a room or suite will cost you at this mammoth development, but we’ll keep you posted on the details as they come in. And with an undertaking of this magnitude, there’s sure to be plenty of news.
