If you're looking for some last-minute Halloween plans, San Diego's Rancho Bernardo Inn is throwing a spooky holiday bash—but not too spooky that it'll scare the kids away—complete with a haunted house, trick-or-treating and, of course, lots and lots of sugar.

The hotel's hosting its first Halloween at the Inn event on Oct. 30 and 31 with a Not-Too-Scary Haunted House ($9), which targets little ones who love the chills of Halloween but are easily rattled. Kids can dress up to enter a costume contest and to trick-or-treat on the hotel's property. They'll also have the chance to get their faces painted and do some pumpkin decorating.

Don't worry about the kids filling up on candy; the Rancho Bernardo Inn will have a family dinner buffet at its Verdana restaurant and outdoor patio. The barbecue-heavy "Spook 'n Soul" buffet ($99 for a family of four; $39 per adult; $10 per child 5 to 13) will include mojito chicken, barbecue pork ribs, beef brisket, salmon in cedar paper, Creole chopped salad and apple cider stations (adults can chug hard cider moonshine instead). Dessert will feature Halloween-themed pastries and tarts.

If you're really looking to make it a Halloween weekend, you can book a room with the hotel's Stay & Spook package, which includes haunted house tickets, dinner at Veranda and a breakfast buffet for $179 a night. The best part of the package is the S’mores and Snores amenity, which allows the kiddies to do in-room camping in a tent, complete with sleeping bag, while snacking on toasted marshmallow treats. Bring a flashlight and you'll have the perfect opportunity to scare the bejeezus out of little ones with ghost stories.
