The W New York Downtown Will Get Its BLT On

Despite news that Starwood’s third-quarter profits have declined 64 percent, work continues on the W New York Downtown Hotel. And let us be the first to say that we're happy about what's cookin' in the kitchen.

Some time back it looked like Trump SoHo would be getting a Laurent Tourondel BLT restaurant, but then came news that the two brands did not play nice:

“BLT Restaurants are recognized for a particular style of food and service which ended up not being what the Trump Organization was interested in,” said Jimmy Haber, Managing Partner of BLT Restaurant Group.

We happen to be fans of BLT’s particular style of food—that’s a BLT Burger at The Betsy’s BLT Steak in the photo above—so the potential loss of yet another New York outpost could have been sad. But no! Starwood to the rescue!

The folks at Eater are following the community board meetings that green light hotel constructions and the establishments within, and they report that the in-the-works BLT Grill at the W New York Downtown now has its liquor license.

The restaurant will have two floors and a small patio for 20, and will close no later than 11:30 p.m. on the weekends. (In a case of classic Trump-upmanship, Trump SoHo’s BLT replacement, Quattro, will span three levels.)

Meanwhile, yet another BLT Steak just opened in the new Ritz-Carlton Charlotte. Laurent is on fire! What’s next, a BLT Hotel?
