No doubt aware of our Gossip Girl fixation, a tipster alerted us to the news over on Curbed—in turn, supplied by another tipster—that the New York Palace Hotel would be closing in 2010 for an entire year of renovations. “I believe that includes the banquet space as well, but am not 100% sure,” wrote the spy.

Keen to stay on top of what this could mean for the GG cast, and of course Serena, we checked in with the hotel’s publicist to get the skinny. She tell us:

There have been no decisions made regarding the renovation of The New York Palace. Management is still in the process of assessing the full scope of the project and, as such, we are not currently in a position to determine if the property will close at all. Given the extent of the research that is necessary, the planning stage is expected to take up to two years.

The thorough research and planning is a hallmark of the historic property. Back in June 2007, a $12 million renovation of The Mansion Rooms was completed after 17 months of work. The fancy-pants venue overlooks the famous Madison Avenue courtyard and is right upstairs from Gilt restaurant.

Stay tuned for updates on the proposed renovations and closing. Serena may be away at Brown University now, but Gossip Girl just wouldn’t be the same without scenes shot at the Palace.
