We’re still waiting to see the transformation of the old Tudor Hotel and Palmer House into the Dream South Beach, but a few blocks down on Collins, another Deco property has just had a mini-makeover. The Hotel of South Beach is now flaunting a 20-room addition and an update of its Wish restaurant. Proving that designers aren’t just in the game for grand-opening glory, designer Todd Oldham returned to South Beach to upgrade his original 1998 designs.

The new rooms are in an adjacent building once known as the Tiffany, designed by Deco granddaddy, architect L. Murray Dixon, and four of them are new 850-square-foot oceanfront terrace suites (ie: big for South Beach, especially a Deco building.)

Browns and corals dominate the rooms, and Wish also gets new deep-brown chairs, but with turquoise cushions for a bit of pop.

Oldham kept many of the same details from his original design when working on the additional rooms, such as the daybeds/window seats, which can also be used as storage. Another signature Oldham touch is the storage panel in the closet which can be collapsed to accommodate floor-length dresses. We tend to see a lot of, ahem, above the knee dresses when in South Beach, but it’s great to know this closet is there for those who need it.
