There’s nothing quite so therapeutic as getting in touch with nature…especially when that nature is a mudpack facial that cleanses your pores and hydrates your skin for a healthy, well-rested glow. Throw in a luxury hotel stay and some drinks by the pool, and we’re in. Catering to nature lovers just like us, The Grand Del Mar is offering a “Nature Renewal” spa package this fall.

Aiming to take advantage of the physical splendor of the neighboring Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, the sprawling but secluded Spanish-revival resort, which is located a half-hour north of San Diego, has put together an “earth-inspired” spa package to help guests unwind in the glories of nature. This isn’t about tofu and meditation, though.

The package includes overnight accommodations in one of the resort’s enormous standard guest rooms, and begins with a choice of one of The Spa’s signature treatments like mud wrap or hot stone session that includes a soothing massage. Work up an appetite on a guided hike in the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve with an on-staff naturalist, then schedule a nutritional consultation with a holistic life coach before enjoying a quick poolside lunch.

As for the rest of your time, reserve one of the tennis courts overlooking the canyon, or call ahead to book a round of golf at the resort’s award-winning course. Consider the fine dining at the resort’s AAA five-diamond restaurant, Addison (you can even visit its wine cellar!), but hit The Spa’s gym first for any number of complimentary fitness classes including yoga, Pilates and spinning. Later, you can sweat out your toxins and troubles in the sauna and steam room before a dip in the Relaxation Pool.

All told, the “Nature Renewal” package starts at $675 per night per person, or $1000 per couple (as opposed to the normal room-only starting rate of $395 per night), so you’ve really got to commit to the regimen to get your money’s worth. The good news is that as the holidays approach and you find yourself short on free time, you don’t have to worry about a limited time frame. The package will be available until June, 2010. To book it, call the resort at (858) 314-2000.
