Fairmont Hotels Go Exotic With Three New Silk Road Hotels

October 13, 2009 at 9:43 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

We love new hotels, and we definitely love new hotels in exotic places – so the fact that the Fairmont group have just opened up three new hotels along the Silk Road gets us pretty excited.

The first is the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi – that unusual name means "Gateway to the Sea" so you can guess that it's a beachfront hotel. There's a private beach and two swimming pools if relaxing is on your agenda, but it's also easy to visit the gold markets, a nearby mosque or trek out on a desert safari. Until the end of the year nightly rates start from $230 as an opening special.

The next exotic location is Cairo, where Fairmont has opened the Fairmont Nile City. It's got a Sky Pool up at the 25th floor, along with a Sky Bar so you can sip cocktails while watching the sun set over the Nile River. It also features the largest spa in Cairo, the Willow Stream Spa. There is also an introductory special here for $240 a night until December 28, which includes a complementary upgrade and breakfast.

Finally, between Shanghai and Suzhou you'll find the new Fairmont Yangcheng Lake in Kunshan, China. This might not be an instantly famous-sounding city but it's home to the oldest form of Chinese opera and some famous cuisine in the form of duck-soup noodles and soy-sauced duck, and a hairy crab that lives in Yangcheng Lake. They have a package including lakeside bike rides, breakfast, and some hairy crabs, valid until December 20, starting from $175 a night.
