Marriott's L.A. Live Hotel Will Feature Massive Video Screen

In Los Angeles, it's doesn't matter what's on the inside as long as the outside looks really, really good.

Engadget reports that when the Marriott hotel complex in downtown LA's new development, LA Live, opens in 2010 it won't just be about the Ritz-Carlton and the JW Marriott inside. As with everything here in LA, what's on the outside matters a great deal. And this hotel will be going all out.

The property owners AEG and sponsor Panasonic have struck a deal to put up a 50-foot by 160-foot screen, totaling 8,000 sq ft screen, on its eastern face on the hotel's exterior that reportedly won't interfere with guests' room views. The screen is already going up on the building, which you can see here, but the rendering above shows you the intended result.

Lately, other hotels have been doing this sort of thing with their exterior like Harrah's Water Tower in Atlantic City which has a 44-story video wall that's really just an optical illusion. We only hope the rooms at LA Live will come with some good black-out shades.
