Folks Are Startled By the Standard NYC
· Looks like those totally clear shower stalls at the just-opened Standard NYC aren't the only things that may make us queasy about those rooms. HC finally went inside the rooms, and reactions to the video tour were largely negative ("winnebago furniture" and "mellow yellow submarine" were a couple of key phrases), but we all eased up once we saw the full photo gallery.
· Speaking of the Standard NYC, member KoellerK left us a great quickie review of his experience over New Year's Eve. We can dig this:
Overall, it was a smart and stylish hotel, with a few service kinks that will get ironed out easily during the pre-opening. The views were amazing, and the beds were comfortable.
· Meanwhile, things at Thompson LES are a little frightening. Gosee reports there's a mouse in the house. Eeek!
I had a mouse in my room, so did someone else on Tripadvisor. They were very nice about moving me, not sure how nice they were to the mouse; but...
· Everyone did a kickass job weighing in on the Guess the Hotel that stumped us (we think we figured it out!), but there may be more to guess than we thought. Jaunted's Victor O. has a question:
Odd. Is that a dead body floating in the pool?
· And our own AmandaK shared a childhood story that was too good to ignore, with regard to the news that some London budget hotels have some, er, cleanliness issues:
this confirms a long-held conviction in my family that London hotels are dirty, my mother will be so pleased to hear this. When I was 9 years old we stayed in London for a week and she refused to let my sister and I walk on the carpet of the hotel room because it was so dirty.
