Seriously. Tune Hotels Now Selling Rooms for 85 Cents
Despite the worldwide economy in the toilet, one budget hotel chain sure thinks their stuff doesn't stink, so much so it's offering rooms for less than a dollar a night.
Tune Hotels CEO Mark Lankester told the Malaysian news agency Bernama that he is going forward with his plan to have 100 Tune Hotels opened or in development within the next three years, and three of those hotels are opening in the first few months of '09: Kuching, Penang and within the low-cost carrier terminal of Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The promotional pre-launch rates for those rooms start at about RM3.00, or roughly 85 cents, for stays between March and October.
That's cheaper than the £1 rooms at Umi Hotels in the UK!
That may very well be thelowest price we've ever seen for a hotel room, and we've been around the hostel block a time or two. Considering the amount you'll have to fork over in airfare just to get to Asia these days, you're bound to feel like a conman (Conwoman? Conperson?) at checkout.
Such budget-minded thinking is exactly what Lankester is banking on in forging ahead with the expansion. "We know people will always enjoy and have a need for good value for money," he told the agency. "Our entire model is based on offering good value for money."
We're not sure what kind of value 85 cents gets you, but if it's from Tune Hotels, we're willing to find out.
