Sundance Film Festival is right around the corner (January 15-29), and if you were planning to hit up Park City to take it all in, there may still be hope of finding a room even this far out. The LA Times reports that occupancy has been down 15% to 25% in PC this winter which means bad things for Park City and its hotels, but it could mean good things for you in terms of deals and availability.
According to LAT, the brand new upscale Newpark Resort, the community's newest upscale hotel, is offering flat room rates all the way through the end of March #151; including the dates of the film fest. Standard rooms are going for only $129 a night, and one-bedroom suites (including a hot tub and kitchen!) are going for $169. For real.
LAT's Sundance article also mentions Silver King Hotel, offering a free pair of Rossignol skis, poles and bindings with the purchase of a seven-night stay.
And finally, if you're desperate, allow us to point you toward an offer we found on good ol' Craigslist for the Park City Marriott (which, as far as we can see, has no availability for at least the first weekend of Sundance right now):
1 room at the park city marriott for the first weekend of the sundance film festival. checkin january 16th 2009, checkout january 19th 2009. two queen beds. for $500, i will transfer the room to your name. you will be responsible for the normal room charges (approx $450/night) and obviously any other charges during your stay.
Just a friendly reminder to always check out the room scalpers on Craigslist as a last resort you may find some gems.
