Quikbook (through whom we made our reservations) immediately got in touch to let us know that the hotel's opening had been pushed back, and we were relocated to the Thompson LES (which we declined) and were offered plenty of apologies.

Meanwhile, the Smyth Tribeca website continued to trumpet a January 6th opening — which made us wonder if the Thompson folks had any more info than we did about when the hotel was going to be finished — but our obsessive e-stalking over the weekend caught the update: the site is now promising a January 12th opening (so just one week behind schedule; not too terrible).

Rates on the 12th (booked through Thompson) start at $199, but rooms are available through Quikbook starting on the 16th. The cheapest we found is a rate of $127 on January 18th, and prices generally look to be staying below the $200 mark on the dates before and after that (we saw a couple of $136 nights).
