It's been open for a good long while now, but someone at the New York Times finally got down to Miami to check out Gansevoort South — ostensibly after experiencing years of hype surrounding the local Gansevoort and/or getting tired of the NYC arctic chill.

In a not-too-enthusiastic, but not-exactly-negative review, the Times-er was impressed mostly with the size of the rooms (even with all the furniture, there was "enough room for a Ping-Pong table in the corner") and with the public spaces of the hotel (gym, rooftop bar, restaurants) that were not the lobby — which, by the way, he called the "least interesting of all the hotel's public spaces."

Some things the Times writer wasn't so down with? Room service for a morning omelet took 33 minutes, and came out to an astonishing $39.24. Also, a teensy complaint about the bathroom: "there was a little too much dark gray granite, as though it were the interior of a quarry."

Other than those things, though, it was a generally thumbs-up (if not a little bit unenthused) review:

In a city filled with trendy hotels, Gansevoort South has managed to distinguish itself with its rooftop pool, spectacular gym and unusually large rooms, which start at $295 in winter.

Still, the TripAdvisor crowd rates the hotel #17 of 133 Miami hotels, citing service as the most common complaint. Hmmm.

Have you stayed at Gansevoort South? Tell us about your experience.
