But today, Page Six is saying that the people behind the establishment are kinda giving up on it, including co-owner and former Bungalow 8 door guy Armin Amiri, due to complications:
"Armin went that Monday to pay the fine and reopen, but they said, 'Where's Giuseppe Cipriani? He's on the liquor license. He has to be here.'" The Cipriani restaurant/catering empire seems to be collapsing while Giuseppe winters in Uruguay. It's rumored he won't return to New York. Amiri, who has a small part in "The Wrestler," had planned to quit the club business in 2009 anyway to concentrate on his acting career. Socialista's backers - including Harvey Weinstein, Morris Moinian and Sting - are believed to have taken a bath on their investment.
Yikes. This can't mean anything but bad news for The Jane, whose management has been entrenched in a fairly public rift with the building's SRO tenants over allegedly not-so-good living conditions. Socialista was kind of the go-to social spot for Jane guests (and a big draw for some) though, again, the two are not affiliated and Socialista simply rents its space from the hotel. Let's keep our fingers crossed that if the place does shut down for good, something at least slightly more awesome than a giant Starbucks moves into that space.
