Trump Las Vegas hasn't even been open for a year yet and already it's discounting rooms as low as $89 a night. With Vegas tourism dropping with the economy, deals like this could be a budget traveler's dream or nightmare.

Should you be seduced by the rates and find yourself within Trump's golden goose, one whose windows are actually covered in a film of real gold, be prepared to feel generous with your money. This is the idea of the property; to swaddle the guests in luxury and lend them a sense of high-roller status to then persuade them into spending more . We realize this is usually the game at all the other Las Vegas hotels too, but Trump is especially adept at it. Look at that pool--don't you just want to order up an overpriced cocktail just to enjoy it better? And the Trump is betting that you will, if you're saving on your room.

For the laid-off migrating to Vegas in hope of a jackpot, staying here could have its added benefits. When and if you win at the tables, you can enjoy the feeling of being temporarily rich as a result of stealing from the rich, namely Donald Trump. Just don't stay too long on the casino floor as you've got a whole $89 room to enjoy. To book, be flexible with your dates (we found $89 a night for February 8 and 9), and do online at their website.

Great rate but hidden fees and bad valet parking

I stayed at the Trump for $89 a night last weekend.  When I checked in, I was told I had to pay a $15 daily resort fee.  WTF? It's not a resort.  No golf course, no beach, no tennis, too cold to use the pool, and Spa is an extra charge. So what makes this a resort???  Just a hidden fee, end of story.

They also charge about $12 a day for internet.

But the real pain - hidden costs after all are small change - was the HORRIBLE valet parking situation. Wow, it was BAD.  Always took 20 plus minutes to pick up the car.  And when I dropped it off Sat. night, they were so backed up that when I went to pick it up 1.5 hours later, it was still on the driveway.  Bad valet service is not unusual in Vegas, but everywhere else you have a choice to avoid it and self park.  Apparently (someone correct me if I am wrong about this) you have no choice but to use the valet.   I think I wasted almost 2 hours of my weekend dealing with parking.

My mamma said if you don't have something nice to say about something don't say anything at all. So here's the nice part.  The lobby is beautiful.  The hallways elegant.  The room is pretty. You can park a Buick in the bathroom, it's so large.

The downside to the $89 room rate is that the people staying there didn't look exactly look like they belong there.  A few times I rode the elevator with people who look as if they got to Vegas by Greyhound - DEFINITELY not the pretty crowd you find at Bellagio or Wynnn or even any of the 4 star places.

The good part of staying at the Trump with the "Down and Out in Las Vegas" crowd was that they don't compete with you for service.  There were only 2 tables taken when I went down for breakfast, which by the way was very good.  It was quite expensive, fitting for what the Trump was hoping for in terms of clientele, but no doubt far too expensive for the people actually staying there! A very nice complete breakfast was a little over $50 for two, and worth it.  The service was very nice.  The food was particularly well presented.  I highly recommend the smoked salmon.

Overall, a good experience in context of the $89 price point.  I would pay more, but only if they fix the valet parking situation (hire more valets!) and get the car to you as fast as the Wynn or the MGM Signature (best valet in Vegas!) can do it.

TRUMP'S DEALT HIMSELF A LOSING HAND!

I've just returned from Trump Int'l Las Vegas (it's  now been downgraded to the Trump Hotel, and the plan for an adjacent tower has been canceled because the hotel is such a failure! It was the WORST experience of my life!! First, they lied at every opportunity when I reserved the two suites through the Trump--they promised me ANYTHING to get me to book with them. When we arrived, we discovered that EVERYTHING had been a lie. They added a $15 resort fee without telling me upfront--for NOTHING! The hotel is located blocks from the 'Strip" in an industrial area adjacent to multiple train tracks. TRAINS roar through, blowing their ghastly horns all night every night--like HOURLY--sometimes four or five blasts at a time. After four days, they moved us to the 42nd floor, and it was just as bad up there. There is no soundproofing in the hotel. The maid service is dreadful--they've fired most because of the economy. The bed was so hard that I ended up catching a few winks on the couch while watching TV in between the trains. I never even turned back the covers on the bed.

The facility itself is grand, but it ends there. I was told to arrive early and they'd upgrade us "free" to a "Strip-View" room. Folks, there is NO strip view from the Trump Las Vegas except for maybe the top of Circus Circus on one side and the tops of industrial buildings and one other crappy hotel on the other side. That's it. More lies from them--and they charge $50/day for a 'strip view'! They sent me pictures of the rooms we'd reserved (two one-bedroom suites) and when we arrived we were put in "guest rooms"--nowhere close to the pictures they sent. When I called it to their attention, they said, "Oh that's a mistake but we'll 'upgrade' you for an additional $100/day per room." That's definitely a "bait and switch" advertising scam!

The computer in the 'Business Office' is free to print your airline tickets--I just received my MC bill for $25! The management is DREADFUL--the most UNaccommodating group I've ever encountered in a hotel. More Mafia-ish than Trump-ish!

To all of you--business, condo buyers, funseekers, EVERYONE!!! Do NOT get roped into the TRUMP HOTEL LAS VEGAS SCAM!!! The hotel actually LOOKS quite posh--the lobby is elegant a la typical Trump, filled with gold, marble, and crystal sparkling lighting fixtures, but the glitz ends there. That's why they're offering some (sounds good) cheap prices. There is NO bargain to be had at the Trump. This is one is one of Trump's greatest failures! The poshness gets lost amidst the lies, cheating, phony charges without telling guests, hard beds, cold showers, bugs in the bathrooms, and 'bait and switch' con jobs. The restaurant is overpriced for what you get, but I hear that, out of desperation, they're going to add some average food for average people...like maybe a $20 hamburger instead of $$$. I think they should have spent the big bucks for soundproofing the windows instead of painting them gold. You'll get NO sleep in this hotel. We even tried the earplugs left over from the Criss Angel fiasco. Don't know which was noisier.
