The W Barcelona is More Hotly Anticipated Than the W Hoboken

While a few of you readers are excited about the forthcoming W Hoboken, it seems that the W Barcelona is the one W Hotel that everyone is frothing over. The other week we put up a rendering of the hotel which looks like a giant sail and told you that the hotel was planning an April 2009 opening. But as we suspected that date is getting pushed back.

Thanks to Starwood Maniac we have an update on the hotel's progress:

Greetings from Spain! Just for yr info, this is one of the original drafts of the project, at least 5 or 6 years old... construction is quite advanced and will be ready by the end of Summer; building doesn't look much like above drawing, believe me. Wanna see a picture taken last week? It's mobile quality but still gives you and idea of where we are. By the way, all rooms will enjoy a WoW view, no need to rush to get one!

The picture Starwood Maniac is referring to is this one, above. Like the rest of you readers, we are very excited about this property. Why? For starters, it's in a bustling metropolis that not only has a ton of culture but a lot of style too. In our humble opinion W made a misstep in opening W hotels to the masses of America. They really should have nailed down the popular international destinations like Barcelona (and insert your fave European city here) before opening in secondary markets in the U.S. (Does Atlanta really need 4 W Hotels?)

Second, this hotel has a great architect behind it, Ricardo Bofill, who has created a building that is unique and design-forward. Wasn't W once a hospitality leader in terms of design and style? We bet they can recapture that glory again with this hotel. We'll even overlook the cutesy W branding words like WoW, Wet, Whenever/Wherever and Wonderful Room. So...anybody interested in going to Barcelona with us this summer?

Um...Juliana, how much do I love you for asking this question?  I love W and always will, but seriously, what are they thinking these days?

October 2009

The Starwood booking engine now says opening October 1, 2009. :(  Maybe NEXT summer.

It's Barcelona, baby.

Count me in anytime.

Yet another high rise

I realize new developments are often popular, however, it concerns me with the state of the world economy and businesses struggling that we would develop yet another high rise.
