Back on January 1, The Peninsula New York followed New Year's tradition and turned over a new leaf by unveiling their new destination spa. The tri-level ESPA spa shows a whole fresh side of The Peninsula, incorporating Asian, European and Ayurvedic treatments instead of just the good old massage and facials.

With its own atrium lobby and tea lounge on the 21st floor, the spa is almost a hotel within itself. We're intrigued by the aromatherapy thermal suites; is that just a fancy term for naked sauna? Truthfully though, the most spectacular bit of the spa has got to be the indoor pool with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Midtown. Access to a private pool in the city, especially one sheltered from icy Januarys such as this, defines luxury and exclusivity.

Speaking of luxury, The Peninsula Spa hasn't forgotten to add some crazy-expensive treatments, called "Peninsula Ceremonies," to their spa menu. One such package will probably be booked up for Valentine's; it's the signature deep tissue experience, where, for $465, a therapeutic massage will release your joints and your yin and yang will be re-balanced. That sounds deep.

Whether you schedule your glance into the new spa with a $195 facial or "experience shower," we'd recommend getting those V-Day bookings in soon. After all, having an unbalanced yin-yang during romantic time sounds just as uncomfortable as shelling out the $900+ plus for a single night in the hotel; better stick to the spa only.
