200 Starwood Hotels In China by 2011 (100 Hotels is Sooo Last Month)

Where: China

Ok, so after we wrote about Starwood Hotels announcing their 100th hotel in China, HC member bangerang commented by saying he still doesn't believe that Starwood will reach that goal.

Well, bangerang, we hate to break it to you (and all those other Starwood Hotels & Resorts doubters), but 100 Starwood hotels in China is sooo last month.

On Monday, an article in the South China Morning Post quoted a Starwood official who said they are expecting to have 200 hotels in China by 2011.

Most of these additional developments are occuring in seaside destinations throughout the country.

Apparently Starwood never expected the economy in China to grow so fast over the years, which created a new group of wealthier citizens who want more and more high end resorts, which will fill the void being left by the declining business travel market.

We're finally understanding Starwood's philosophy: "First China, then the WORLD."

Re: 200 Starwood Hotels

yeah, not buying this either. these development pipeline estimates are generally about as accurate as opening date estimates for thompsons.

remember when hilton announced about a year or so ago that they were gonna open 75 hotels in india in the next 5 years (http://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4031411.search?query=hilton+dlf+75)?  well, nothing's open yet, and i've heard only one (in saket) is even under construction

dinner is on me for the whole HC crew if there's 200 starwood hotels in china by the end of 2011, provided i get to sit in between juliana and jenna.
