We are most definitely in two minds about the pros and cons of visiting Myanmar aka Burma at the moment, but that doesn't stop us from looking at interesting places to stay should the situation change in the future.

And one place that crossed our desk this week is the Malikha Lodge in the northern state of Kachin.

It's meant to be a sustainability-focused resort that employs local tribe members and sources food and other stuff it needs from the local community.

Malikha Lodge is relatively new and there's just one TripAdvisor review so far, but it's glowingly positive. That tends to make us a bit suspicious, but it does sound genuine, and if so, then Malikha Lodge is both luxurious and sustainable, a great combination.

Malikha Lodge is found at the base of a mountain (and there's snow there in winter so time your trip carefully) and within a subtropical rainforest. It has 10 bungalows and from October will have a swimming pool and spa as well. Three night packages start from $1,450 per person. We're figuring it might be a while before we check this out in person, but we have to admit that it sounds nice.
