At Long Last, W Announces Plans to Conquer England

September 3, 2008 at 11:22 AM | 0 Comments

Yeah, so -- did you know there was no W Hotel in London yet? One would think that London would have been one of the first cities to get a W once they started expanding, right? Think about it: it's stylish. It's hip. It's modern. It's London. Hello.

And yet, our good friends at Starwood haven't gotten around to building any W's in England -- well, until now.

The W Hotel and Residences London-Leicester Square was announced today -- along with the W Manchester -- and both are slated to be completed in 2010. Hell, if Hoboken can get a W, England should have a couple too.

The London property will be on the site of the former Swiss Centre building and should stand 10 stories high when all is said and done.

This sleek, new hotel will feature 194 luxurious guest rooms and 10 two-level, luxury branded residences, as well as a signature spa, fitness facility, a world-class destination restaurant and W's exclusive Living Room experience where guests are invited to mix, mingle and relax in a stylish social atmosphere.

Sounds hot. Meanwhile, the W team is going to be busy workin' on the W Manchester as well, a 160-room property located in the city's warehouse district.

And even though this particular rendering of the W London reminds us a bit of madras shorts (thus reminding us of the tragedy that is the end of summer), we think it's going to look awesome.
