The Hyatt Chesapeake Bay's new "Politi-scape Package" sorta speaks to us. After all, we can think of more than a few cracked-out politicos who could do well by a break from the election horse race, not to mention all those average schmoes among us.

Just 85 miles east of the District of Columbia and perched on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the hotel is offering itself up as a "restful retreat" far from the Beltway, and now through the star-spangled inauguration on January 20, guests at the Hyatt Chesapeake Bay will enter full-immersion detox: stashing cell phones and Blackberries at the front desk and trading pantsuits for plush spa robes and iPod shuffles programmed with the best of easy listening.

The deluxe 1,430-square-foot suite (!) is politics-proofed, with nary a television or newspaper access but rather board games, a library of non-political books to choose from, two fireplaces, a parlor with a full wet bar and views of the Choptank River.

Plus, guests get a $40 breakfast credit and $130 credit at the resort's Stillwater Spa. At the spa, election-wary guests can unwind with Eastern Shore-inspired treatments and--our personal favorite--something called the "Blackberry Balm Hand Massage."

A nice bonus: For each guest who books the package, the resort will donate $100 to the local Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. It all sounds pretty tempting, but at $2,008 a night (oh Hyatt, you're so clever!) we're thinking we might have to DIY a (ahem, vodka-induced) politi-scape instead.

    a bit much

Ooh, I'd sure like to stay for a blackberry massage, but I'd rather make my own contribution to Blackwater NWR and sleep in a tent.  It seems rather jarring to have such a tall hotel on the Choptank River.
