Mr and Mrs Smith Help Us See the UK, Boutique-Style

September 29, 2008 at 9:45 AM | by | Comment (1)

Tired of merely recommending nice boutique hotels for us to bed down in for the night, the team of Mr and Mrs Smith have gone hi-tech and put together an interactive Route Planner so we can now drive all across the UK knowing we're not missing any of the best spots to sleep or eat.

We tried planning a road trip from London to Glasgow and we can instantly spot a few detours to make so we can stay in a few more Mr and Mrs Smith-recommended boutique hotels; on the map it's quite handy that you can click on the hotels along the route and go direct to a booking page if you want.

What annoyed us on this site was the Saab overload. We get it, Saab sponsored it, so they get the right to advertise, but even if we did drive a Saab, we're not quite sure why we'd need one-click access to the locations of every Saab dealer across the country.

On the other hand, we do like the "Best UK road trips" feature with half a dozen pre-planned trips to some of the most beautiful spots, plus the ability to tweak these itineraries to suit us even better.

Hi
I'm so pleased you like the route planner. One of the functions that took us ages to get right but is actually really useful is the 'avoid motorways' function.  You plot a route A to B and then click to reconfigure the route to avoid all motorways.
