London's Grosvenor House Gets Grand Renovations

After four years of renovating work the Grosvenor House Hotel has rejoined the ranks of luxury five-star spots to stay in London. Just a couple of weeks back these smiley guys gathered for the official opening. Since it's been taken over by Marriott the hotel now has a (clumsy) new name: Grosvenor House, A JW Marriott Hotel.
Clumsy name or not, it sounds like there's nothing clumsy about the Grosvenor's new look. No expense spared--it's really a multi-million pound job--means that as far as luxury goes, there's not much to complain about. The only thing missing is a spa--but that's scheduled to be built and open for 2010.
With 494 rooms, the Grosvenor is London's largest five-star and it's also got room for large conferences or other events, in the Great Room. Trivia tip: the Great Room used to be used as an ice rink and Queen Elizabeth II learned to skate there!
To celebrate the grand reopening the Grosvenor is offering a "Historic Weekend in London" package starting at £740 (US$1,370). The deal includes to nights in a deluxe room, breakfast, one dinner, a souvenir "History of London" book and a full-day walking tour of London--just you and your Blue Badge guide. For the lazy or lame you can add about five hundred pounds to get a private car tour in a Bentley.
