There's a ton of new things happening with Kor Hotels this week.

First, an Abu Dhabi company bought a 50 percent stake in the company allowing Kor to expand their presence overseas opening hotels in Middle East, North Africa and Asia.

And back in the states, The Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills is getting a new look from its designer Kelly Wearstler to be completed sometime in early 2009. We initially heard this was happening from a dedicated HotelChatter reader but now we have an official statement from the designer herself after the jump.

"As a designer, my work has evolved greatly over the years, so I've decided to apply a fresh look to my first hotel project, the Avalon. I plan to remain true to the property's retro-nostalgic roots, which merges a mid-century spirit with the relaxed Southern California lifestyle.

For the guest rooms, the color palette is an airy mix of sea greens and aquatic blues juxtaposed with organic materials, such as bleached woods and crisp marbles, and modern touches, including bold, geometric patterns and a mix of 1970s and 1980s inspired pieces, specially commissioned by Tofter Chin.

I'm looking forward to unveiling the Avalon's new look in early 2009." - Kelly Wearstler on the re-design of Avalon Beverly Hills

Sounds like the Avalon will be a lot more colorful than what it is today which is mostly solid minimalist colors. So we're excited to see the finished product! Right now, we don't have the specifics of the renovation timeline other than it's going to be completed in early 2009 but when we do, we'll get them to you ASAP.

Avalon makeover

I stayed at the Avalon last year and had a great experience.  The staff was extremely accommodating without a whiff of LA attitude.  This along with the retro-nostalgic feel of the hotel - glad to hear that that will remain after the upcoming makeover - made for a very relaxing weekend.  Guess it looks like I'll have to check this hotel out again in 2009.  (P.S. - I hope they don't makeover the Molton Brown products!)
