Room Reaction
The decor is anything but modern, the walls are paper thin, and you can hear anything and everything happening in the room next door. It didn't help that we had an adjoining room with... strangers. Whenever they smoked it was like we were smoking. How does that work exactly? A non-smoking room and a smoking room are adjoining? Interesting.
Also, the air-conditioning was awful, recycled air. Imagine airplane air times one hundred. Imagine have a cold all weekend when you're in blistering hot Vegas. Yeah.
Internet Connect
$14 per 24 hours per computer on corded Ethernet. Yes, you heard us right. Despite the fact that you can only have one computer connected at a time--you know sitting at the "desk"--you have to pay again if your traveling companion wants to plug in her computer. Even though two people can't be connected at once. Oh, and the cord is short. So don't even think about trying to work from the bed.
Amenities Madness
Rather, no-menities. Our rooms came with the bare minimum: shampoo, conditioner, a bar of soap, an ice bucket, some free Vegas magazines, and one little notepad. There was a hair dryer and large laptop size safe and that was all. True Motel 6 style.
Casino Action
We get that people smoke in Vegas and that is the thing to do. But there are ways to dissipate the smell. All the other casinos manage to do it, Monte. The carpet was even more fugly than the rooms and with each step you could practically feel the nicotine in the floors, walls, and slot machines. It was everywhere.
Restaurant: The Brew Pub
We dined at The Brew Pub and by dined I mean waited ten minutes to give our drink orders, another ten to receive them, another ten to give our food orders, and then years and years until our food finally came.
The food was definitely good, but the reason we dined at the Brew Pub rather than one of many other dining opportunities is so that we could get in and get out while watching the game.
Yet the place was horribly understaffed. (There were a lot of people behind the bar and running in and out of the kitchen. Maybe it was a big room service night or something. But they could have told us! Or at least brought us drinks to make us forget!)
Restaurant: Diablo's
HC commenter babysistah shared, "I hope you made it to Diablo's at The Monte Carlo while you were there. Frankly, I think it's the only nice thing about the place. We didn't make it there, but we'll take her rec. Stay anywhere else, but try Diablo's margaritas! They looked good in the picture!
What We Did Like: The Valet
Despite the surface-of-the-sun heat that is Vegas, all the gentleman working outside at Cab Pickup and Valet were charming and helpful. You go, guys!
Bottom Line
This is place is dirt cheap. They often have $89 a night specials going on. Perhaps they can't fill the place, perhaps it's just that cheap to run a shabby operation. Do not let this fool you! Please! Take our advice! Pay more and stay somewhere else!
So, um, we think we've made ourselves pretty clear. Clear being the opposite of the air in the Monte Carlo.
