Kimpton Wants You to Feel the Power

September 22, 2008 at 11:12 AM | by KatieK | 0 Comments

While we count down the gut-wrenching days until the big pick of the next leader of the free world, Kimpton Hotels want to remind you that you should totally plan a trip to the center of all the drama: Washington, D.C.

A "power trip," that is. Each of Kimpton's seven D.C. hotels is offering a "Portraits of Power" package to coincide with the Corcoran Gallery of Art's current big exhibit of the same name by photographer Richard Avedon.

Along with Kimpton's predictably well-appointed lodging, the package includes two VIP tickets to the art gallery (VIP=un-timed access) as well as a take-home catalog of the exhibit by German publishing powerhouse Steidl.

Showcasing some 250 photographs of the ever-prolific late Avedon's best work, the exhibit chronicles his career from the 1950s to his death in 2004 and provides photographic evidence of the so-called Washington elite we keep hearing about in those darn campaign ads.

Rates start at $199 for the Hotel Madera, $219 for the Hotel Palomar, $239 for the Topaz Hotel, Hotel Rouge, and Hotel Helix, $259 for the Hotel George, and $279 for the Hotel Monaco. In case you hadn't noticed, Kimpton has its own healthy share of power in Washington's hotel scene.
