Loyalty Program News :: Choose Your Own Adventure with SPG

Remember those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books from when you were a kid? (We're talking to the over 30 that is.) It worked like this--you read a chapter of an adventure tale and at the conclusion you have to make a choice. Depending on which choice you make, you turn to a different page to read the conclusion of your adventure. We loved those books.

And now we get to have just as much fun as grown ups with Starwood Preferred Guest's (SPG) You Choose promotion between October 1 and December 31.

Here's the deal. SPG members talked and Starwood listened. Travelers determine their earning power and choose from a dozen different reward options broken down into four categories: Free Nights, Elite Status, Bonus Starpoints and Gift Cards. Within each category, members choose an earning option and reward based on how they travel and what kind of loot they want to score out of their stays.

To be honest it feels a little confusing.  Check their Web site and you'll see--it's a bit overwhelming to choose your adventure. But it seems they realize that and have a handy Need help deciding? Get recommendations link which tells you what reward option to choose if you fit one of these scenarios:

· I know I'm going to be traveling and want to shoot for elite status faster.
· I have a lot of stays coming up. I'd like to maximize my Starpoints balance.
· I have travel plans and I'm interested in earning Free Night Awards toward future travel.
· I have one or two long trips planned and I want to maximize the amount of Starpoints I can earn.
· I'm new to the SPG® program and I would like to jump-start my Starpoints balance fast.

None of these fit you? They'll show you rewards other than Starpoints for your stays (like a $25 Amazon gift card for two stays).

Confusing, but sounds like a great idea

We talked about something similar in one of our posts yesterday: http://thehotelexperience.blogspot.com/2008/09/getting-great-ratej.html
