There's nothing like the mention of a city's tallest building to get us excited about potentially great hotel room views and in northern Germany the 120-meter Radisson SAS Hotel Hamburg is the tallest kid on the block. What's more, it's about to get a very extensive makeover--the year long renovations are set to cost €45 million (US$65m).

The renos are such a big deal that the hotel will have to close for three months in the dreary German winter--that means January to March of 2009. But when it opens in (they say) August 2009, the new Radisson SAS Hamburg will be intriguing, especially when it comes to the furnishing design.

Designer Christian Lundwall has apparently been allowed to pick three different styles to blend together:

"Natural" (light wood and soft cream colours), "Urban" (a clear, no-frills style of modern mega cities), and "New York Mansion" (exuding the elegant atmosphere of an upper class lounge).

Sounds a bit like Hamburg is trying to become a bigger city than it really is, but we'll wait a year or so to make our final verdict.
