Starwood's SPG Flight Program Takes Off Today

September 2, 2008 at 12:14 PM | 0 Comments

Here at HC HQ, we like to joke around about Starwood's plot to take over the world. It started with the insane expansion of Aloft, with new properties popping up all over the globe within a matter of months. Then there was that whole 100-hotels-in-China thing we just heard about, too.

And once they've conquered the land, we suppose the next order of business was to go after the skies: Westin recently partnered with United to bring some of the Westin amenities to United flights -- but they're not stopping there.

Today marks the launch of Starwood's SPG Flights program, a feature added to the S-wood loyalty program that will allow members to redeem Starwood Preferred Guest points for free flights -- with no blackout dates. Because Starwood owns the whole world and can make it happen, apparently.

More details -- including a points-to-price redemption chart -- after the jump.

The new program is actually totally kickass and easy to work with. Members find and book flights through the SPG Flights site, using SPG points to pay for the ticket.

Imagine: you can stay in Starwood hotels for an entire year, then use all the points you racked up to buy yourself more plane tickets and rooms at more hotels. And on the way to all these hotels, you could be on a United flight with Westin Heavenly Amenities. And then you could sell a memoir about it and call it "My Year of Living Starwood" or something.

Anyway, we had a good, BS-free experience when we bounced around the site -- check it out for yourself here.

Oh man, Starwood. We cannot imagine a fleet of W-spinoff cruiseships is far behind, here. Or an Aloft floating around in space, even? An underwater Sheraton? You would.
