Oh, poor, poor Nate on Gossip Girl. He's gotten himself caught between a rock and a hard bitch -- and we're not so sure it's going to be so easy for him to get out with his pretty, pretty face unscathed this time.

On last night's Gossip Girl episode, NYC suffered a citywide blackout, annoying Jenny got fired from her internship because for being exceptionally annoying, Serena and Dan got stuck in a confined space and were forced to confront their relationship issues, and it would seem that Blair's boyfriend Lord Marcus (or, "Lohhhd Mahcus") is maybe gay. That's pretty much what we gleaned from the episode, though you can check out a much more detailed recap and analysis over at our super-perceptive brother site Jaunted.

Back to Nate: he's gonna get screwwwed by someone at The Mercer Hotel.

Vanessa -- who might be the least likable of all supposed-to-be-loved characters on any CW show ever -- is sad because she has confronted Nate about all of his shady behavior and flakiness, and she's found out that he's sleeping with this evil royal cougar woman referred to as "The Duchess."

Meanwhile, the Duchess is all about getting her little Nate to come and meet her the next day at The Mercer for a little lunchtime action. He'd committed to it -- but had also been pushed by Vanessa to bring her lunch while she's working at the gallery. Oh, the dramz!

The whole thing comes to a head at Blair's party where Vanessa tells Nate to ditch the Duchess...before the Duchess reveals that if Nate leaves her, she'll tell the po-po where Nate's fugitive Dad is hiding. Vanessa bounces, and the Duchess presses a roomkey into Nate's hand.

So basically this rendezvous at the Mercer is gonna totally screw Nate. Either he doesn't show up and the Duchess gives up his Daddy to the police...or he shows up and he gets royally screwed (heh, you know, cause she's a Duchess) and deeper into all this crap. Unless someone has a plan...which, surely, someone does.

We're kind of digging the fact that the GG scene is moving away from the old time-y ornate settings like The Palace and onto more modern, trendy properties like The Hudson and The Mercer.
