Fairmont Hotels Wants To Be The Greenest Hotels Of Them All

September 12, 2008 at 3:49 PM | by abigailmschilling | 0 Comments

The Fairmont Hotels brand continues to ride the Green train, this time offering up Fairmont Green Packages for all. Whether you're in the mood for activity or just hoping to avoid a guilty conscious, you'll probably find something you like.

For example, the Fairmont Winnipeg has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to offer the "Home Sweet Home" Package where you can help construct homes for families while vacationing. The technical term is "voluntourism" but we like to call it helping others when you can.

From $219 a night, you get overnight accommodations, breakfast, transportation to and from the homebuilding site, a boo boo kit, and access to the steam room after the day's work is done and you can feel the burn (for additional cost, you can also order an in-room massage).

San Francisco's Fairmont will let you stay in their shiny new Lexus Hybrid Living Suite which is made of sustainable, renewable, and local resources and designed to give eco-saavy travelers peace of mind. You'll also get use of the 2008 Lexus Hybrid Luxury Sedan and a bottle of local organic wine, plus free parking if you bring your hybrid (with a normal daily parking rate of $45, that's quite a savings right there). The "Eco is the New Chic" Package starts at $689.

Fairmont is currently offering these types of eco-packages at 20 locations. Of course, being "green" seems to mean a lot of things these days. While many of the packages expose guests to the environment, not all of them are kind to the environment. Do your research and the planet will thank you!
