NYC's Plaza Hotel Sued for "Attic-like" Penthouses

Oh dahlings, the Plaza makes us want to order champagne room service, "happen upon" an Almost Famous-style room party, or at the very least play Macaulay Culkin for the day.

Celebration, it seems, would be untimely though, as that gilded giant of New York infamy appears to have fallen on a bit of hard times of late. Following well-documented buzz over the Plaza's insane $400 million renovation, the talk of the town had been that the glitterati was getting lonely in the empty hallways of those coveted penthouse apartments.

But the most recent twist of the knife? Russian zillionaire Andrei Vavilov is so unhappy with his $53.3-million penthouse Plaza digs that he filed a lawsuit against the Plaza's real estate company, El-Ad Properties, crying "bait-and-switch" foul after being denied access to his properties, you know, in order to check out the goods before the sale went final. Once Vavilov finally did gain access to his unit, the Ruskie was aghast and is demanding the return of his $10.7 million deposit, plus more than $20 million in damages.

Behold all the ugly deets, via press release, describing the so-called "epitome of luxury":

An attic-like space was found, with ceiling heights far lower than promised, views were obstructed, window sizes dwarfed, square footage diminished, large unattractive drainage grates installed directly outside of certain windows, among other drastic changes not disclosed."

If that wasn't painful enough, latest word is that as many as 25 other units are being re-listed as well due to similar complaints. Ouch.
