Sigh. Only in Vegas would we hear of an establishment spending $25 million on a volcano. A fake volcano. A likeable synthetic replica of a naturally-occuring thing that nobody likes when it actually occurs in nature.

Still, the famous volcanoes in front of the Mirage have been around since 1989 and the Vegas powers that be have decided its hot time for a makeover on those bad boys.

According to an AP report, the volcanoes will have these oh-so-necessary updates after $25 million bucks are burned:

120 new fireball-throwing devices that will be choreographed to erupt in sync with a rumbling drum score co-composed by former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and piped into the desert air through a high-tech sound system, according to company officials who will officially announce renovation details Wednesday.

Is anyone buying our jaded 'tude? No? Okay, you got us: we think the volcanoes are super cool and we're volcanology-dorking-out about this and can't wait to see them -- but what do the Deadheads think?

As a Vegas Local, I say bring on the heat!!! Maybe it will deter families from taking their five year old children to see the soft-core pornography show next door also known as "The Sirens of TI."
