The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, where the Canadian Opera Company performs.

If you like the history and culture of opera but can't stand that high-pitched singing, the Toronto Hilton has a nice alternative for you with its Appetite for Opera program. You don't have to listening to foreign squeals all night, but instead you get to eat a whole lot of great food.

The Toronto Hilton's Tundra restaurant is working in combination with the Canadian Opera Company to run three Appetite for Opera evenings over the next nine months: to get exact, on September 25, January 22, 2009 and May 6, 2009.

Each evening will be themed to its own opera, Don Giovanni, Rusalka and A Midsummer Night's Dream, and the menu will be matched to the composer and their background, as well as to the stories and themes of the operas.

So while we can figure there'll be some Italian and Czech cuisine happening there, otherwise it's all a bit of a surprise to us--but those in the know on opera might be able to guess better. It sounds like fun and a good excuse to have a nice meal. Cost is C$89.

This sounds like the most palatable form of opera we've ever heard of.
