If you've been fortunate enough to stay at a Ritz-Carlton, you know that "Ladies and Gentlemen" is not a euphemism for the restroom -- but rather how the company refers to its staff. So, when we last stayed at the Ritz-Carlton at Grande Lakes in Orlando, we deigned to ask one of these comely "Ladies" stationed in the lobby where we might find the nearest ladies room. Instead, found ourselves being escorted to the threshold of the powder room.

This was somewhat of an awkward moment that left us wanting to point out that we no longer wear Pull-Ups and, in fact, can go potty by ourselves.

Plus -- as we also noted in a previous Adventure in Overservice when we told you about bellmen insisting on taking our luggage at check-in at another hotel -- if managed to get to the hotel on our own, we can certainly follow directions for getting to the lobby restrooms, right?

But what's even more disturbing is when you're not aware of the fact that this is Ritz-Carlton's standard operating procedure and it's a "Gentleman" who wants to show you the way. Unless we're missing something, most guys don't escort their wives, girlfriends, mistresses, etc. to the ladies room in public places. So why should we accept it as normal when a stranger does the escorting?

Have your own "overserved" experience to share? Spill it in comments below.

Crossing the Ladies' Room Line - not...

when i've been workin in operations i thought the same and was not always following the standards - you won't believe how many guests do not understand 'the last door to the left down this hallway' with my arm guiding them into the right direction. trust me, it's better to personally escort them, although it might feel awkward to some...

Re: Adventures in Overservice :: Crossing the Ladi

As a gentleman {well, when I'm at work anyway} I have no problem escorting ladies to the ladies room but I stop walking once I {and presumably they} can see the sign on the door.

I can sort of understand that.

I agree with uniq - you'd be surprised how many people get lost with even the simplest of directions. Still, once the door is in sight, I believe that's far enough.
Though if the whole bathroom escort idea makes you a bit uncomfortable, this article here has got some good ideas for finding other lodging locations in Orlando:
