Curtis Bashaw describing guest reactions to The Chelsea

We had an opportunity during our stay at The Chelsea this weekend to catch up with Curtis Bashaw, the developer of The Chelsea and he gave us a tour of hotel including the as-yet unfinished portions of the hotel like Lite rooms, the Crystal Room, and the Sea Spa.

Since we had Curtis' undivided attention for a short while, we asked him a few questions that were on our mind:

HC: What happened to the bathtubs in the Luxe Rooms?

CB: There are 16 Luxe rooms that have bathtubs which can be specially requested if a guest requires or wants a bathtub (like a family with children) . The remaining Luxe bathtubs all have been converted into large two-person showers because the bathtubs were small, plus most guests who stay at The Chelsea prefer a large shower. All of the Lite rooms have bathtubs though.

HC: What type of events will the Chelsea host in the Ballroom?

CB: The Crystal Room will host everything from weddings, to corporate events, to mini-concerts, and on the weekend, hands-on tutorials teaching guests how to play casino games like Baccarat, Roulette, Poker, Etc.

HC: The Social Sauna (Jacuzzi) is off of the Salt Water pool in the Florida Room. How did you come up with the Florida Room name?

CB: The Chelsea takes on a nostaligc feel of the 50's and 60's, which was the same time that almost everyone was adding Florida Rooms onto the side of their house.

Check back tomorrow for our take on The Chelsea's dining/nightlife and an interview with the General Manager of Teplitzky's Coffee Shop
