To get to this island, you have to take a car or public mini-bus, and then continue driving along a dirt road or take a motorcycle taxi, and then from the banks of the river to the island, a short canoe ride.
It's a bit of a trip and we even got a kick out of the directions on the website. After several turns down dirt roads, the hotel advises:
Just park up near the house with the flowers and bang on the tyre rim at the bottom of the hill. The boat will come over and get you.
But all the trouble is worth it--there's probably a warm beer and a crazy rafter waiting there for you. The accommodations are meant for every budget. You can sleep in a luxury banda, banda, dorm or bring your own tent, and spend most of the day lounging around the island's not so hairy edges and swimming in the Nile.
Prices range from $18 for the camping option (30,000 Uganda shillings) to $45 per person for The Sugar Shack (pictured above) which can sleep up to four people. All prices include meals. And if you need to quench your "thirst", the Hairy Lemon has a full bar on site. However, it is advised that you bring your own lemons should you require them.
