Labor Day Hotels :: Half-Off in Mexico and the Caribbean Through Expedia

Those crazy folks in the advertising world are rolling out their back-to-school and end of summer specials -- don't they know summer is still in full swing?

Expedia is taking advantage of the apparent change of seasons by reminding us that there are still great summer deals to be had -- all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, no less.

Book four nights or more at AI resorts and get the whole schmear at half off. (Hence Expedia's tag of "Half Off Summer Sale.") Throw in the airfare and you've got a relatively inexpensive vacation.

Deals can be had at Mexico's Royal Solaris Cancun (rooms start at $176 a night, airfare packages for $610), Grand Oasis Riviera Maya (rooms for $189; airfare packages for $699), Royal Solaris Los Cabos (rooms for $179; airfare packages start at $556), or the Sun Village Resort & Spa in Puerto Plata, DR (rooms start at $175; airfare packages start at $965).

The puzzle here is mulling through the mixed reviews on Tripadvisor and determining what's right for you. Lazing on the beach in the Dominican Republic, a kid's water park at Los Cabos, eight restaurants and five bars in Cancun?

AIs aren't this blogger's cup of tea, but if pressed, we'd pick the Grand Oasis Riviera Maya (pictured above) -- if only because you're near all those wonderful Mayan ruins like Tulum and Coba, and cenote adventures at places like Xel-ha and Hidden Worlds. Forget the rooms, climb an ancient pyramid and swim in a subterranean cave!
