This image here is larger than it actually appears on the Hyatt website.

Word has it the Hyatt Regency Washington DC is offering prices more in line with Super 8 than with super luxe this month. A recent email offer read:

"Plan a getaway to our nation's capital and enjoy end of summer savings. With Hyatt Regency Washington's Summer Getaway offer you'll receive luxurious accommodations on Capitol Hill at rates starting at $89 per night.

You'll also be within walking distance of the Smithsonian Museums, Union Station shopping and a number of historic DC monuments.

The offer has blackout dates from now through August 22nd but after that the $89 rate is totally bookable until September 1. But here's the fine print. Literally.

When you search for this rate (start here for the Summer Getaway) a teeny tiny red-font notice appears above the search results:

"Please be advised that Hyatt Regency Washington is undergoing a $7 million lobby renovation this summer. This makeover will entail modernizing the front desk and updating the appearance and concept of the lobby restaurant and lounge.

The restaurant and lounge has been relocated to the Thornton Room on the 11th floor during this time. The new lobby is scheduled to debut in late September 2008."

Indeed, Hotel Maven HAS warned us about this construction just a few weeks ago.

Hmm. Major construction we just can't swing, even if the hotel were free. But work down in the lobby? We could maybe deal with some dust and noise in exchange for double digit prices at a swank hotel.
